Behind the Blog:
My Story, Saved on Floppy Disk

Hey — I’m Amanda

To begin: If your little one’s within arm’s reach, press pause. A blog can wait — your presence can’t be rewound.

To continue: I’m a mom to two amazing little girls, a wife to my college sweetheart, an educator with a passion for old-school learning, and a proud ’90s kid at heart.

Welcome to my little corner of the World Wide Web, where I chronicle the messy, magical, and definitely less convenient journey of trying to raise kids without screens at the center of their world.

This isn’t a parenting how-to. It’s a parenting rewind—a place to reconnect with the kind of childhood we remember, and to explore what happens when we slow things down just a bit.

Rewinding to Simpler Times - my why

I (maybe like you) grew up in the 1990s—a time of Walkmans and windbreakers, Beanie Babies arranged like a classroom, and long afternoons outside without a single ping.

Winters were for building snow forts. Summers meant swimming until we crashed on the screened-in deck. We knew the sound of a VHS rewinding and the smell of a freshly opened SEARS catalog.

We learned math facts with flashcards, made dioramas from shoeboxes, and bought way too many Babysitters Club books at the book fair.

Was it perfect? No. But it was simpler. And honestly? I miss it.

Now that I’m a mom—and a teacher—I find myself saying it again and again:
“I just want to give my girls the kind of childhood I had.”

A childhood full of imagination, human connection, dirt, boredom, and discovery… not devices.

As a teacher, I see the effects of our fast-paced, screen-saturated world every day. Kids are more anxious, less motivated, and struggle with focus and creativity. But deep down, we don’t need research to know something’s off. We feel it.

This blog is my way of pressing pause. Of rewinding just a little. Not to live in the past, but to bring forward the parts of it that made childhood feel like magic.

What You’ll Find Here

This blog is part parenting experiment, part love letter to analog childhood, and all about community. Here, I share:

  • 💛 Encouragement to raise grounded, resilient, creative kids
  • 🛝 Play-based activity ideas (no glitter explosions, I promise)
  • 📚 Research on why screen-free parenting supports healthy development
  • 🧰 Tips for creating tech-free or tech-mindful routines

This space isn’t about judgment or perfection—it’s about intention. It’s about being brave enough to slow childhood down and make room for the kind of play, connection, and creativity we know deep down our kids need.

Let's Connect

Whether you’re screen-free, screen-curious, or just intuitively feel your toddler shouldn’t be that good at swiping—you’re welcome here.

Pull up a chair (extra points if it’s a Papasan from Pier 1), pour yourself some tea, and let’s raise kids in rewind—together.
